Google Meet

Hello families,

It is so great to have so many of you in the Google Classroom. We are still missing a couple of students so if you can touch base with your friends and classmates to see if they have had a chance to join that would be much appreciated. 

Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 7, at 10:30am, I will be hosting a Google Meet session. I have sent each student an invitation on their email but you can also access by going into Google Meet and using this code kjk-dask-aue. Please read below for some digital citizenship reminders. 
As we move into our Google Classroom environment, please be aware of a few things in relation to Digital Citizenship. 
We want to encourage a positive learning environment where posts and comments are connected to the assignments and curriculum. Google Classroom and Google meet is not the place to post items you would normally post on other digital platforms. It is a school classroom and all posts need to be school appropriate. During our Meet session we want to encourage discussion that is engaging and relevant to the learning. 
Students who are not adhering to the school digital citizenship plan, that was signed at the beginning of the year, will be notified by their teacher. Please see the etiquette images below for tips. 
We are committed to providing students and staff with a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that respects diversity and fosters a sense of belonging.

Updates and reminders

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  Fall is my favourite season.  This month: - October 14th is the due date for students Wetland projects. Many students have gathered materials from the classroom to build their wetland and are welcome to ask if they need other items.  - October 14th is also the due date for the Social Studies work on Canada - October 15th is school photo day.  In Language Arts - We have been working on making connections to our reading  In Math - we have been working on patterning, expressions, and variables Please note: If your child is absent from school they can access class activities on the Google Classroom. Meet the Teacher Conferences phone calls

 Here we are starting the first week of Fall.  I hope you all have an opportunity to book a phone call conference time this week. I look forward to speak with you.  This weeks HIGHLIGHTS : We will have our class council speeches for students who are running for positions this term.  - Tuesday, September 22 - Grade 5 councilor speeches - Wednesday, September 23 - Grade 6 councilor speeches - Thursday, September 24 - Mayor speeches Elections will take place the following week. This year curriculum updates and practice work will be posted on our Google Classroom. It is a closed network and you and your child will be able to log on with your child's educbe.ca account.

Welcome Back 2020/2021 School Year

I certainly hope you've had an amazing start to the school year and are excited to be back at school. There are a few reminders I would like to post for you. Please take note of each item so students are set up for success: 1)    Reminder about “Soft Entry”. To help ease students coming into the school, our grade 5/6 doors will be open at 8:15 and students are allowed to come in anytime between then and 8:30 when class starts. During that time, students will be supervised and allowed to do any catch-up work, read, meet with the teacher, get a head-start on other activities, etc.   2)    Some things that your student could bring and keep at school: a.     Indoor shoes, if you haven’t already brought a pair. b.     A water bottle that goes home every day to be cleaned. c.     A reading book that can be left at school for a period of time.  d.     A pair of their own headphones and ear buds that can be left at school.  e.     A deck of their own cards if possible.
