Meet the Teacher Conferences phone calls

 Here we are starting the first week of Fall. 

I hope you all have an opportunity to book a phone call conference time this week. I look forward to speak with you. 

This weeks HIGHLIGHTS: We will have our class council speeches for students who are running for positions this term. 

- Tuesday, September 22 - Grade 5 councilor speeches

- Wednesday, September 23 - Grade 6 councilor speeches

- Thursday, September 24 - Mayor speeches

Elections will take place the following week.

This year curriculum updates and practice work will be posted on our Google Classroom. It is a closed network and you and your child will be able to log on with your child's educbe.ca account.

Reminders and updates

Save the date - Thursday, December 12th is Winter Market in the evening This weeks collection items are canned or jarred foods. Language Arts:  Students are working class novel study that looks at the history of the Underground Railway in Canada. This corresponds to the outcomes in Social Studies. They are working on daily reading and writing skills that include writing a reading response, making words in "Boggle", reading and responding to news articles using "Currents4Kids", and reading independently to add completed novels to their 40 book challenge. Science:  Students are conducting experiments to understand key concepts around mixtures and solutions. They are also expected to understand and demonstrate the scientific process. They will continue to learn concepts and vocabulary for the unit through demonstrations, experiments, and videos.

September 30th - Orange shirt day We are looking forward to an exciting October.  October 7th is the first swimming day October 8th, 9th, 10 is our outdoor camp days October 18th is our student vote day Please ensure you have returned your YMCA Camp Riveredge field trip forms by Friday. With the sudden weather change please ensure your child comes to school with the appropriate  clothing and has indoor shoes at school. We go outside everyday.  Check-out the problem of the week tab if you are looking for extra math practice at home.

Welcome Back 2020/2021 School Year

I certainly hope you've had an amazing start to the school year and are excited to be back at school. There are a few reminders I would like to post for you. Please take note of each item so students are set up for success: 1)    Reminder about “Soft Entry”. To help ease students coming into the school, our grade 5/6 doors will be open at 8:15 and students are allowed to come in anytime between then and 8:30 when class starts. During that time, students will be supervised and allowed to do any catch-up work, read, meet with the teacher, get a head-start on other activities, etc.   2)    Some things that your student could bring and keep at school: a.     Indoor shoes, if you haven’t already brought a pair. b.     A water bottle that goes home every day to be cleaned. c.     A reading book that can be left at school for a period of time.  d.     A pair of thei...
